Houghton Lake has three public boat ramps, several private boat ramps, and lots of marinas. The majority of the Houghton Lake boat ramps are located on the south and west sides of the lake. The boat ramps all offer quick access to the lake and give you the opportunity to lauch near the area you plan to fish.

The Houghton Lake West Shore boat ramp is located on the west side of the lake a half mile north of the intersection of M55 and Highway 27. This is one of the better boat ramps on the lake with lots of parking and restroom facilities. The ramp has six launch lanes and the wait times are generally pretty small with the exception of holiday weekends. Close to Long Point and some good fishing on the western shore. This ramp is close to Lyman's on the Lake Bait and Tackle Shop. Caution: Follow the channel markers straight out into the lake as the area outside the channel is extrememly shallow.
Fees: DNR permit is required to launch. Cost is $6.00 for the day or $24.00 for the season. Permits are good at all DNR ramps for the full calendar year.
Directions: Easy to find. From M55 go north on North Harrison Road (Old 27) and the ramp will be on your right side just before the Comfort Suites Hotel (large white building). |

The Houghton Lake South Shore boat ramp is located half way between Prudenville and Hwy 27 - basically in downtown Houghton Lake. The South Shore boat ramp is a DNR ramp and one of the better launch facilities on the lake with lots of parking and restroom facilities. The ramp has six launch lanes and the wait times are generally pretty small with the exception of holiday weekends. Close to good fishing in the south shore weedbeds and East Bay. This ramp is close to Lyman's on the Lake Bait and Tackle Shop. Caution: follow the channel markers to the lake as the area outside the channel is extremely shallow.

The Houghton Lake East Shore boat ramp is located on East Houghton Lake Drive - between Hwy 18 and the Roscommon Airport. This is a DNR ramp that has one dock and restroom facilities. The ramp is pretty much out in the open lake and can pose some challenges on a windy day. The water is pretty shallow and the dock is relatively short. Close to good fishing in East Bay. Caution: very shallow on both sides of the ramp.

Directions: Relatively easy to find. The East ramp is located on East Houghton Lake Drive 2.8 miles from Hwy 18. It's a little hard to see the entrance - watch for a small sign on your left side about 1.0 miles past the County Park if your coming from Hwy 18. |

The Houghton Lake Marina boat ramp is a private ramp located on the north side of North Bay. The boat ramp is a one lane facility adjacent to a store and marina. They have dock space, gas, some marine supplies, and boat repair. Close to good fishing in North Bay and Long Point.
Fees: $4.00 in and out and they ramp is always open. Use the after hours box for payment if the marina is closed.
Directions: Easy to find. Located on West Shore Drive near the intersection of Old Hwy 27 and River Rd. Look for the big marina building and a bar located next to the ramp. If you're coming from the water there is a large brown house on a point in front of the marina.
