Detroit River Trip Details
Get ready for a action packed day jigging or handlining for walleye on the Detroit River with Captain Paul Doute!
We will fish a variety of different locations as walleye move up and down the river during their annual spawning migration. Some classic areas we may fish include the Steel Mills, Mud Island, Fighting Island, BASF Wall, and the Trenton Channel. You will be jigging with 3/4-1 ounce jigs tipped with artificial bait and a stinger hook. We use medium action spinning reels filled with Fireline for better feel and hook setting abilities.
Captain Paul will put you on the fish - the rest is up to you! View Available Dates & Reservation Form |

What To Bring:
Warm clothes are a must. We are fishing in April and May and even if the air temperature is warm the water temperature is still in the 40 degree range. Best advice is to overdress and we can store your extra clothes if you get too warm. A good quality warm coat, hat, gloves, and rain gear should keep you comfortable most days.
A camera to take a picture of your catch. Most cell phone cameras will not take take the quality photo you are looking for if you catch the trophy of a lifetime. Bring a good camera.
Fishing Licenses:
All anglers 17 or older are required to have a valid Michigan fishing license.
Canadian Fishing License - highly recommended since many days the best fishing takes place on the Canadian side of the river. The difference can be significant in terms of both numbers of fish and size of fish. You have several options for purchasing your Canadian license. Click here for details
Please note: you will need to purchase your Canadian license in advance. We have no way to get a Canadian license once you are at the river.
Food & Drinks:
Bring any food and drink you would like to eat during the day in a SMALL cooler. We also have the option to return to the slip at lunch time and go to the Speedboat Bar & Grille - a short walk from the dock.
No Alcohol or Drugs Allowed - sorry but there is ABSOLUTELY NO alcohol or non-prescription drugs allowed on any Walleye 101 Charter Trip.
Fish Cleaning:
Wyandotte Yacht Club has space to clean your fish once the trip is over. Bring your own fillet knives if you wish to clean your fish at the boat ramp - power is available for electric knives. Please bring some gallon zip lock bag for the fillets and a cooler with ice to transport your catch and keep it fresh on the ride home.
Hotel Accommodations:
There are several hotels and motels conveniently located near the Detroit River. These are generally not luxury accommodations but are "fisherman friendly" and keep yo close to the hot spring fishing action. View Hotel Options
