Big Catch Featured Story

Walleye - 4.9 lbs
September 2009 - Lake St Clair

Lake St Clair has lots of walleye as Kevin shows us with this nice fish.  Most of the LSC fish tend to run about a pound and a half so Kevin's fish is on the big side for the lake.  He caught this one on a Walleye Kid Custom Crawler Harness that he got from our online store.  The mid lake humps gave up this fish.  Another technique that works well is to troll small crank baits 50-70 feet behind the boat at 1.2-1.7 mph.  We like shad raps in gold and also in chartreuse.  If you catch some good fish on St Clair let us know.

Walleye - 12lbs PLUS
March 2009 - Detroit River Steel Mills

Personal Best Fish!

Fishing early in the spring paid off BIG for Dean Cushman as he hauled in a 12 lb MONSTER last weekend!  This beauty came from the warm water discharge near the steel mills. Dean was using a 1 ounce jig with a big 5" shad body and a stinger hook.  This combination helped the fish find his bait in the stained water.  The area where he caught the fish is in Lance Valetine's "Guide to the Detroit River" DVD.  Dean is a Walleye 101 member and credits his success to attending Lance Valentine's River Fishing Seminar and reading the "Walleyes in the River" study guide.  If you want to land a trophy of a lifetime just like Dean, get out on the river in the next few weeks before the walleyes are spawned out. Good luck and send me a photo of your BIG fish!!!

Walleye - 3lbs 4ozs
June 2008 - Holloway Reservoir, Michigan
Personal Best Fish!

Cole caught his biggest walleye ever on Sunday June 1, 2008!  He was fishing in the Lance Valentine Walleye 101 Hospice of Michigan Fund Raiser Tournament.  This beauty weighed 3lbs 4oz and hit a #4 Rapala Shad Rap 35 ft back trolled 1.8 mph. Fishing was tough with strong north winds but Cole hung in there all day and his effort paid off.  Not only did he catch his biggest walleye ever, but he also won a nice prize - four Walleye Kid Custom Crawler Harnesses.  Word is Cole can hardly wait to get back on the water and catch some more walleye with his new lures!  Congratulations and keep up the great work.

Walleye - 11lbs 14ozs
April 2008 - Kelley's Island, Lake Erie

Mark E. caught this 11lb 14oz monster on the north side of Kelley's Island.  The fish measured a strong 31.5" and looks like she had recently spawned.  Mark was using a Purple & Pink Pas with a night crawler in 45 feet of water.  Most of the fish in the area were suspend about 20-25 feet below the surface.   The program that helped Mark land this beauty was running his 3/4 oz Pas 50 feet back and sending it out on an inline planer board.  This is a great technique to target spooky fish early in the season.  Mark was participating in a Lance Valentine Walleye 101 Trophy Hunt that takes place every year in late April out of Port Clinton, Ohio learn more

Walleye - 8lbs 9ozs
November 2007 - Huron Ohio, Lake Erie

Mike B. caught the biggest walleye of his young fishing career on a hot fall bite in Lake Erie just off the Huron River.  This 8lb 9oz fish hit a deep diving pink lemonade Reef Runner trolled 50 feet behind a planer board.  MIke and his dad Larry knew that fall is a great time to target trophy walleye migrating through the Huron area.  That knowledge paid off with this 28.5" monster! The most productive techniques are slow trolling large crankbaits like Reef Runners and Rapala Husky Jerks.  Mike and his dad Larry were participating in a Lance Valentine Walleye 101 Trophy Hunt that takes place every year in early November out of Huron, Ohio learn more

Walleye - 8lb 4ozs
April 2008 - Kelley's Island, Lake Erie

Chris (Walleye Kid) caught this 8lb 4oz walleye in 43 feet of water on the northeast corner of Kelley's Island.  The fish measure a fat 27" and while not a personal best for Chris it is his biggest fish of the 2008 season.  The fish hit a Walleye Kid Custom Crawler Harness with perch beads and a gold blade around 9:30 in the morning.  Chris was running his line about 50 feet back with a 1oz inline weight.  Most fish were suspended about 24 feet below the surface and a speed of 1.1 mph seemed to do the trick.

Perch - 1lb 3ozs
March 2008 - Metro Beach, Lake St Clair

Ben M caught this 1lb 3oz perch in 6 feet of water just off Metro Beach on the west side of Lake St Clair.  The fish measure 13.5" and was Ben's personal best perch of his young fishing career.  The fish hit an orange and green ice fly tipped with a wiggler around 12:30 in the afternoon.  Lots of fish were caught that day but Ben knew right away this one was someting special!
